There’s plenty to do in Schuylkill County over the Memorial Day weekend. Make sure you honor our area’s many military veterans and those serving today all weekend by attending some of these events. These are just a few of the many with publicly available information.

Mount Laurel Cemetery Memorial Day Ceremony Honors Fallen, Plus Restoration Work
A Memorial Day ceremony will be held at the Mount Laurel Cemetery in Bulls Head outside Pottsville. The cemetery had fallen neglected until a group of volunteers, led by Home Depot, worked to clear the gravesites and honor those buried there. Many of the plots contain the remains of military veterans.

Atkinskon is Guest Speaker at Palo Alto Memorial Event
The annual Memorial Day ceremony in Palo Alto takes place on Sunday at 1 p.m. The event is held in the middle of the borough at the Palo Alto Veterans Memorial next to Bacon Street Playground.
“I am honored to have been chosen as the speaker for the Palo Alto Memorial Day Ceremony. It will be great to see all the folks from my hometown,” Atkinson posted to social media recently.
Patriotic Concert in Orwigsburg
There will be a FREE patriotic concert held from 7-8 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Orwigsburg.
The annual concert features the following performers:
- Patriotic Festival Choir
- Blue Mountain High School Chorale & Chamber Singers
- St. Paul’s Bell Choir

Orwigsburg’s Parade on Memorial Day is a Can’t Miss Event
The parade in Orwigsburg gets underway from the Orwigsburg Veterans Community Memorial Hall at 8 a.m. Monday. A special ceremony follows the parade at the M&T Bank community lot at Market and Warren streets in the borough.
Mahanoy City Getting Ready for a Big Parade
The Memorial Day parade in Mahanoy City gets underway at about 8 a.m. on Monday.
Schuylkill Frontier Girls Hosting Memorial Day Service in Schuylkill Haven
The service gets underway at 8 a.m. at the new veteran’s memorial on the Parkway in Haven. Active and retired military are invited for the ceremony.
“Pastor Howard Fernsler, retired Navy, will be leading our service in prayer. RSVP is required, as our troop will be providing active military and veterans with a small gift,” the group says on its Facebook page.

New Philadelphia Memorial Day Parade
Honor America by attending the Memorial Day parade in New Philly on Sunday morning. The event steps off at about 8:30 a.m.
Participants should line up at the New Philadelphia Post Office at 8:15 a.m. The parade ends in the borough square for a Memorial Day ceremony.
Frackville’s Parade Starts at 9
Be ready because the Frackville Memorial Day parade gets going at 9 a.m. promptly on Monday. Staging for the parade is at M&T Bank between 8:30 and 8:45 a.m.
Tamaqua Gears Up for Big Parade
Tamaqua puts on its best bib and tucker for the annual Memorial Day parade. This year’s event kicks off at 10 a.m. on Monday.

Don’t Miss the Cressona Memorial Day Parade
The Cressona Memorial Day Parade forms at 10:30 a.m. in the Hydro parking lot. The parade gets underway at 11 a.m.
11 a.m. Start for the Ringtown Parade
The annual parade in Ringtown starts around 11 a.m. Participants start lining up at 10:30 a.m. at Jeld-Wen’s parking lot and it winds through the borough, ending at the Little League field.
5K Race Held in Orwigsburg
The Orwigsburg Fire Dept. hosts the Hero Hustle 5K race in Orwigsburg from noon until 3 p.m. on Sunday.
Sweet Arrow Lake Memorial Day Concert
A Memorial Day concert wraps up the day’s festivities around the area at Sweet Arrow Lake County Park. The concert runs from 6-8 p.m. The featured artist is Vaughn Nark. He’s the former lead trumpeter with the USAF Airmen of Note Jazz Band.
