A pair of local high school softball teams advanced to the next round of the District 11 playoffs. However, North Schuylkill’s season ended early after getting upset in the first round.
Class 1A
Mahanoy Tops Tri-Valley
On Tuesday, Mahanoy Area shut out Tri-Valley in the Class 1A playoffs, 5-0. The win sets up a date with top-seeded Williams Valley in the semifinal round on Thursday in Pottsville at 4:30 p.m.
On the other side of the bracket in 1A, Nativity found out who it will face in the semifinals. Notre Dame-East Stroudsburg topped Lincoln Leadership, 15-0, on Tuesday to set up a meeting with Nativity on Thursday. That game is at 4 p.m. in Tamaqua.
Class 3A
North Schuylkill Upended by Salisbury
In other action on Tuesday, the Lady Spartans were upset by #6 Salisbury on Tuesday, 7-3.
Top-seeded Pine Grove, the Schuylkill League champs, found out who its semifinal opponent will be. Notre Dame-Green Pond beat Pen Argyl in the other 3A quarterfinal game on Tuesday, 3-2. NDGP now faces Pine Grove on Thursday at Blue Mountain HS at 7 p.m.
Class 4A
Tamaqua Moves On
In the 4A bracket on Tuesday, Tamaqua defeated Wilson, 8-4, to move on to the semifinal round. They’ll face Northwestern Lehigh at 11 a.m. on Thursday at Desales University.
In the other 4A semifinal, #2 Blue Mountain faces #3 Bethlehem Catholic on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. in Pine Grove. Beca defeated Allentown Central Catholic on Tuesday, 12-2.
