Schuylkill League Well Represented in 2019 District 11 Softball Playoffs

A dozen Schuylkill County school qualified for the 2019 District 11 Softball playoffs this year.

Here’s a breakdown of the teams that qualified and their paths to a District 11 championship.

District 11 Class 1A Softball Playoffs

Local qualifiers: #1 Williams Valley, #2 Nativity BVM-Pottsville, #4 Mahanoy Area, #5 Tri-Valley

The Schuylkill League runner-up Williams Valley grabbed the top seed in the District 11 Class 1A softball bracket. That gets the Lady Vikings straight into the semifinal round. #2 Nativity BVM also gets a bye into the semifinals.

However, on Tuesday, a pair of local teams square off for a right to reach the semis.

At 4:30 p.m. in Mahanoy City, the #4 Golden Bears take on #5 Tri-Valley in a quarterfinal game. The winner moves on to face Williams Valley on May 23 at 4:30 in Pottsville.

The winner of the #3 Notre Dame-East Stroudsburg vs #6 Lincoln Leadership game on Tuesday moves on to face Nativity in the semifinals. That semifinal game will take place in Tamaqua on Thursday at 4 p.m.

District 11 Class 2A Softball Playoffs

Local qualifiers: #1 Schuylkill Haven, #2 Minersville, #4 Marian Catholic

The Class 2A bracket is small but is chock full of Schuylkill League squads.

Schuylkill Haven grabbed the top seed and faces #4 Marian Catholic in a semifinal game on Thursday at Blue Mountain (3 p.m.). The second semifinal starts just after that game is over.

In it, #2 Minersville faces #3 Northern Lehigh.

The championship game is set for May 28.

District 11 Class 3A Softball Playoffs

Local qualifiers: #1 Pine Grove, #3 North Schuylkill

In the Class 3A playoffs, we could be on a collision course for two Schuylkill League teams meeting in the championship round.

Schuylkill League champs Pine Grove wait out the quarterfinals this year as the #1 seed. They’ll get the winner of #4 Pen Argyl and #5 Notre Dame-Green Pond, which play on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

The Lady Spartans at North Schuylkill snagged the #3 seed in Class 3A. They will host a quarterfinal game on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. against #6 Salisbury. The winner gets #2 Palmerton in the semifinals.

District 11 Class 4A Softball Playoffs

Local qualifiers: #2 Blue Mountain, #5 Tamaqua

Blue Mountain grabbed the #2 seed in the Class 4A playoffs. They’ll wait out a game between #3 Bethlehem Catholic and #6 Allentown Central Catholic on Tuesday. The Eagles play the winner of that game in the semifinal round on Thursday at 4:30 in Pine Grove.

On the other side of the Class 4A bracket, #4 Wilson plays host to #5 Tamaqua on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. The winner of that game gets #1 Northwestern Lehigh in a game Thursday at DeSales University.

District 11 Class 5A Playoffs

Local qualifiers: #4 Pottsville

Pottsville gets into the Class 5A playoffs as the #4 seed but it’ll be an uphill climb to claim a District 11 title.

First up for the Lady Tide is a date on Thursday at 7 p.m. at DeSales University. That’s when they’ll face #1 Southern Lehigh in the semifinal round.

The other matchup in Class 5A pits #2 Bangor against #3 East Stroudsburg-South.
