The American flag flying above Schuylkill County Courthouse looks ragged.
Ragged, is putting it kindly. It’s torn and frayed all along the stripes.
Coal Region Canary stopped by the Fifth Ward in Pottsville recently and snapped this photo of Old Glory flying above our Fortress of Justice and Political Corruption.

Unless there’s some national or local significance to this particular flag — other than the significance that accompanies any American flag — it needs to come down.
According to the U.S. Flag Code, there’s no reason to fly a flag in this condition. The right thing to do is retire this flag and get a new one.
County Commissioners found more than a quarter-million dollars to put in air conditioning in Courtroom 1 recently. And they’re reportedly fussing over window blinds, too.
Maybe they can find enough money to get a proper flag to fly above the Courthouse?
