Did you hear the extremely on-air hot take following Monday’s Pottsville basketball game?
Despite controversy swirling around the entire school district, the Crimson Tide won the first game of the boys’ Class 5A District XI playoffs. They defeated Bangor Area. They now move on to the District XI championship round.
But it’s what came after the game that caught our attention most.
The players currently suspended in relation to the incident were not in uniform. Needless to say, the one player is rather tall and an integral part of the team’s success this year. We’re not sure if he’ll play again considering there’s a lawsuit filed on his behalf against the school district.
Despite the absence, the Tide was able to come away with a victory.
And WPPA color commentator — and the former Dean of Students at Pottsville Area High School — John Powers said exactly (OK, almost word-for-word if you have this on tape) what we were all thinking:
“Bangor fans came up here and must be wondering … How could a team that small win 21 games?”
This is why you always stick around for the post-game show, folks.
We actually really enjoy Powers’ commentaries on the radio. He brings a local flavor to the air that’s truly unique. But this take … 😲.
