The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Schuylkill County.
The warning will go into effect at 7 p.m. Monday evening and last through 9 p.m. Tuesday.
The latest forecast calls for between 3-6 inches of snow for most county residents. People living in higher elevations could get as much as 8 inches.
The lowered forecast snowfall is due to the mixing of other heavy winter precipitation as part of the storm. The storm will start as snow this evening and then change over to sleet and freezing rain before daybreak Tuesday.
Up to one-tenth of an inch of ice is expected to accumulate during the storm.
Schuylkill County schools have already closed on Tuesday as a precaution. In addition, PennDOT put a travel travel restriction on Interstate 81 during the storm. The move bans commercial traffic and limits speed to 45 mph.
