Wanted Schuylkill County Man Leads Police on Foot Chase

Lantigua-Gutierrez taken into custody

A man wanted on multiple arrest warrants was taken into custody Tuesday evening in Shenandoah following a foot pursuit that spanned several blocks, police say.

Victor Lantigua-Gutierrez was arrested and transported to the local police station after repeatedly attempting to hide and flee from officers, police say.

The pursuit began shortly before 7:30 p.m. on May 19 when police in a marked patrol vehicle spotted Lantigua-Gutierrez, 40, of Shenandoah, walking south in the 100 block of S. Main St. toward E. Cherry St., police say. Recognizing that Lantigua-Gutierrez had multiple active warrants, police turned the vehicle around, at which point he ducked behind two parked vehicles on the northbound side of the street, police say.

Lantigua-Gutierrez temporarily evaded police, who called for assistance. As police walked south toward E. Cherry St., Lantigua-Gutierrez peered out from the intersection and took off running, fleeing between two buildings behind S. Main St., police say. An initial foot patrol of the area came up empty-handed, police say.

Knowing Lantigua-Gutierrez frequented an ex-girlfriend’s house, police began patrolling that vicinity, police say. Officers then spotted him standing at White and E. Laurel streets near an auto body shop, police say.

Lantigua-Gutierrez ran behind the building toward Herald Rd., prompting police to check the nearby woods, police say. As additional police arrived to search the wooded area, Lantigua-Gutierrez was observed running west on E. Laurel St. toward S. Market St., where he was apprehended, police say.

He is now facing charges of flight to avoid apprehension and evading arrest on foot.
