A Schuylkill County man is accused of repeatedly striking his father in the head and wrestling him to the ground during a confrontation, police say.
The victim arrived at the Schuylkill Haven State Police police barracks shortly after 12:30 a.m. on April 2 to report the assault. Police say the man was holding his left arm wrapped in bloodied paper towels and had blood on his clothing.
The victim told police his son, Shawn Reed, 27, of Pine Grove, confronted him in the kitchen of his Washington Township home. Reed began striking the victim in the head several times with a closed fist, he said. The victim reported he did not know exactly how many times he was hit.
Reed then wrestled the victim to the ground, causing an injury to his left forearm, before the victim was able to leave the residence, police say.
Emergency medical personnel examined the victim. Police observed two large hematomas and an actively bleeding laceration on the victim’s left forearm, as well as a minor abrasion on his left pinky finger.
Police attempted to contact Reed at his address around 1:30 a.m. but were unable to locate him. He was later taken into custody and arraigned before Magisterial District Judge James Reiley and charged with aggravated assault with extreme indifference, a first-degree felony, a misdemeanor count of simple assault, and a summary count of harassment. Reiley set bail at $25,000 cash and remanded Reed to Schuylkill County Prison.
