The Schuylkill County man accused of using a local government debit card to rack up thousands of dollars in personal purchases appeared in court this week.
Timothy Edmonds, 19, of Brockton, waived all charges against him to Schuylkill County Court of Common Pleas this week during a preliminary hearing before Senior Magisterial District Judge Edward Lewis in Port Carbon.
Edmonds is accused of stealing more than $8,100 in New Philadelphia Borough funds by using its debit card to make personal purchaes.
Among those purchases were what he allegedly described as “amazing cigars”.
Edmonds allegedly used the debit card – which he was given after just three days on the job as a Borough employee to make purchases for projects at Lowe’s – and went on a spending spree for himself.
In addition to the cigars, Edmonds also allegedly used the Borough’s debit card to purchase “multiple loads” of copper from Lowe’s, which he then scrapped at Weiner Iron and Metal in Pottsville.
He also allegedly shopped at Tractor Supply Company in Saint Clair using the New Philadelphia debit card.
Edmonds was taken into custody soon after Coal Region Canary first reported that a warrant had been issued for his arrest. He was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge James Reiley on felony charges of theft, receiving stolen property, and unauthorized use of an access device (debit card), as well as a misdemeanor charge of misapplication of entrusted property and property of government.
Reiley set bail at $25,000. Edmonds posted bond last Friday, court records show.
