A Schuylkill County man wanted on a bench warrant allegedly fled a traffic stop, wrecked his vehicle in a cemetery and was later found with fentanyl on him.
Police in Shenandoah say at about 9:30 p.m. on Nov. 7, they saw Jared Krise, 33, of Shenandoah Heights, West Mahanoy Township, driving a black, Nissan Rogue on S. Main St. Krise was known at the time to be wanted on a bench warrant for failing to appear for a court appearance so a traffic stop was initiated.
Police say Krise initially stopped and was informed of his warrant situation. He reportedly told police that he needed to get his vehicle back home. Police say they told him that they’d call someone to get the vehicle returned home but he needed to surrender at the scene.
Krise responded by ignoring police and speeding away from the traffic stop. Police pursued, going north on Ringtown Blvd, then onto Pennsylvania Ave, and then to Schuylkill Ave.
At Schuylkill Ave. and Swatara Rd., Krise swung the vehicle right onto Swatara, approaching the New St. Casimir Cemetery and speeding into it.
Police say Krise’s vehicle hit a hump as he attempted to exit the cemetery, disabling it.
A struggle with police ensued as Krise was taken into custody.
A search of Krise reportedly revealed two baggies of a substance that later tested positive for fentanyl, police say.
Krise is now facing charges of fleeing police, a felony, along with misdemeanor counts of flight to avoid apprehension and possession of a controlled substance and summary offenses for driving without a license and speeding.
He was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Edward Tarantelli and is being held on $50,000 cash bail. A preliminary hearing on these new charges is scheduled for Dec. 4 before Judge Anthony Kilker.
