A Schuylkill County man was jailed after he allegedly struck a police officer responding to a domestic disturbance last week.
Police in Frackville say they were called to a domestic incident on S. Nice St. shortly before 6 p.m. on Oct. 30. Upon arrival, police say Timothy Dowd, 58, said nothing was going on and that he was leaving.
Dowd was told he was not free to leave the scene. However, Dowd reportedly told police that he knows his rights and there was no reason to detain him. He attempted to get into his vehicle, ignoring commands to stay put at the scene, police say.
A Frackville police officer says he got between Dowd and his vehicle. To create a little distance and prevent him from getting in the vehicle, the officer said he placed his hand against Dowd’s chest.
Dowd allegedly responded by balling a fist and striking the officer on the wrist. Police say Dowd continued to act in an aggressive and confrontational manner.
Backup from Butler and West Mahanoy townships was called to the scene and Dowd was taken into custody.
Police say they spoke with the female involved in the reported domestic incident. She reportedly told them that Dowd had grabbed her arm while they were engaged in a verbal argument.
Dowd has been charged with felony aggravated assault along with a misdemeanor count of simple assault and a summary offense for harassment.
