A Schuylkill County woman must answer to charges that she punched a teenage girl in the head and then kicked her in the back while she was on the ground.
Police in Minersville say they were called to the intersection of North and N. Fourth streets on the evening of Oct. 13 for a reported assault.
At the scene, police say they spoke with a 16-year-old girl who told them that an unknown female came up from behind her, hit her in the back of the head and then kicked her in the back while she was on the ground.
Police say they obtained surveillance footage which reportedly shows that the victim of this alleged assault was walking on North St. in the borough when a youthful-looking female – later identified as 19-year-old Layla Watkins, of Minersville – ran around the corner toward her.
The victim told police she yelled for Watkins to stop and put her hands over her head.
Watkins ignored what the victim was saying, apparently, and struck her in the back of the head, then dragging her to the ground by her shirt. After kicking the teen victim in the back while she was on the ground, Watkins allegedly said, “Don’t talk sh** on my friends, bi**h!”
A day after this alleged attack, police were able to catch up to Watkins elsewhere in Minersville. Watkins reportedly told police that she believed her victim was older.
She further told police that her assault on the victim was “pretty bad,” police say.
Watkins is facing charges of simple assault and harassment. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Dec. 2 at District Court in Port Carbon.
