Police in Schuylkill County say a woman was DUI and had heroin-filled syringes in her vehicle when she crashed into another vehicle carry two adults and three children on Route 183 in August.
State Police say the two-vehicle crash occurred on Aug. 31 at about 7:15 p.m. along Route 183, south of Gobbler Spur Rd. in Wayne Township.
At the scene, police say they spoke with the victim driver who said that a vehicle driven by Vicki Cragle, 48, of Dallas, Luzerne County, crashed into his as he, his wife, and three children were headed south on Route 183 that evening.
Cragle told police that she was headed north on Route 183 that evening when something hit her vehicle. That’s when she crossed the center median and crashed into the victim’s vehicle, police say.
Police say it was evident that Cragle was driving under the influence. They say she failed a number of field sobriety tests at the scene.
After Cragle reportedly gave police the OK to search through her belongings, they say two needles that likely contained heroin were found in one of her bags. She was taken into custody on suspicion of DUI but refused a blood test.
On Thursday, police filed numerous misdemeanor charges against Cragle in relation to this crash, including DUI, possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, and five counts of reckless endangerment. She’s also been charged with several summary traffic offenses.
A preliminary hearing at District Court in Tremont has been scheduled for Feb. 5.
