Schuylkill County Man Allegedly Hits Man in the Head with a Board, Attacks Ex-Girlfriend

Anthony Maziarz held on $20K bail

A Schuylkill County man is accused of hitting his ex’s current boyfriend in the head with a board after assaulting his ex.

Police say they were called to a property on Barry Rd. in Butler Township shortly after 4 p.m. on Oct. 16 for a reported fight.

At the scene, police say they spoke with both victims in a small building at the rear of the property. The male victim showed police the board with which he was hit by Anthony Maziarz, 41.

All three live at this property, which has two buildings, including the small one at the rear of the property and a house trailer.

The female victim said she was in the rear building on the property when Maziarz entered and got on top of her. Maziarz allegedly attempted to take a key from around her neck, which was held there by a piece of telephone cord.

At that time, the male victim forced his way into the building and saw Maziarz on top of his girlfriend. A scuffle ensued and Maziarz allegedly hit the boyfriend with a board, causing a large laceration to his head.

Police say they contacted Maziarz in the trailer on the property and took him into custody. Back at the Butler Township Police station, Maziarz allegedly admitted to hitting the victim in the head.

Maziarz was arraigned later that evening before Magisterial District Judge James Reiley and charged with two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of simple assault, two counts of harassment, and a single count of disorderly conduct.

Reiley set bail at $20,000 cash and Maziarz was remanded to Schuylkill County Prison. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 22.
