Meuser Says He’s Not Running for Governor, Will Stay in Congress

Plans to run for re-election to Congress in 2026

US Rep. Dan Meuser (PA-9), who represents Schuylkill County in Congress, says he will not be running for Governor of Pennsylvania.

Meuser had been considered a leading candidate to challenge current Gov. Josh Shapiro. However, he announced Tuesday night that he’s going to stay in the House until at least the end of 2026.

Meuser won re-election to the US House in 2024.

Shapiro took office as Governor, succeeding Tom Wolf, in 2023, when he defeated Republican Doug Mastriano.

Meuser released a statement announcing his decision to forgo a run at the Governor’s mansion in Pennsylvania:

“The U.S. is on the move, and under President Trump’s leadership, we will continue to maximize opportunities to make our nation even stronger, safer, more robust and affordable for all Americans.

“Just last week, I helped lead the fight to pass President Trump’s tax cuts for families and small businesses, legislating and codifying border security, enacting U.S. energy dominance initiatives, strengthening our military, and bringing fiscal accountability to what was excessive spending.

“This was just the beginning. Continuing the progress we made is too important, which is why I have decided to remain in the U.S. House of Representatives, working with President Trump and our Republican majorities in both the House and Senate to pass his agenda and forgo a campaign for Governor of Pennsylvania.

“My focus needs to remain on doing my job, serving my constituents, and executing the plans to strengthen our country. President Trump proved that Republicans can be successful up and down the ballot in Pennsylvania, and I will work diligently to ensure we are again successful in 2026.

“I am very grateful for all the support extended to me across Pennsylvania, and especially thankful to President Trump for his encouragement. I am confident we will have an outstanding Gubernatorial candidate, we will defeat Governor Shapiro, and make Pennsylvania a leader among states and the best place to live.”

Thank God Dan Meuser isn’t running for Governor—because if his track record in Congress is any indication, Pennsylvania just dodged a red-tie-wrapped bullet. This is the same guy who grinned his way through voting for the “big beautiful bill”—a tax handout so lopsided it practically gift-wrapped the economy for the ultra-rich while leaving regular people in Schuylkill County with potholes, payday loans, and platitudes. Meuser’s idea of constituent service seems to be occasionally pointing at a closed-down coal plant while telling Fox News everything’s great. Meanwhile, the daily reality here is deteriorating infrastructure, stagnant wages, and the growing realization that Republican loyalty in this county is built on nostalgia and bumper stickers, not actual results. He sold his vote to the donor class while the people who elected him settle for the crumbs—because as long as there’s an “R” next to his name, folks here keep getting hoodwinked into thinking he’s on their side. Meuser isn’t too busy to run for Governor—he’s just too comfortable being useless in Congress.
