A Schuylkill County man is accused of hitting his father in the head with a rubber mallet during an alcohol-infused argument over who was the better mechanic.
State Police say they were called to a home in Porter Township last Thursday (March 19) for a reported fight between a father and son. Police learned before arrival that each had been drinking that day.
As they got to the scene, police say they spoke with the victim of the alleged incident, who said he and his son – identified as James Wise Jr. – were in the garage at about 7 p.m. working on a vehicle. While working on the vehicle, the victim told police he informed his son that he was the better mechanic.
This was not well-received by Wise Jr., who reportedly responded by tackling his father to the ground. As both father and son were on the ground, Wise Jr. allegedly grabbed a rubber mallet and struck his father on the top of his forehead. Police say the victim had redness and bruising on his forehead.
Both then left the garage. As each attempted to go into the home, Wise Jr. allegedly tackled his father to the ground a second time. Wise Jr. then left the home with his wife and, according to the father, likely went to his mother’s home in the Reading area.
Police say attempts to reach Wise Jr. by phone were unsuccessful. He’s being charged with a misdemeanor count of simple assault and a summary count of harassment.
