Saks & Company to Close Schuylkill County Warehouse

435 out of work

One of the larger private employers in Schuylkill County is closing the doors for good at its local warehouse facility and hundreds will be out of work as a result.

Saks & Company announced it’s closing its Highridge Business Park facility in Schuylkill County. A total of 435 employees are affected by the announcement.

In a statement released to Coal Region Canary on Wednesday, a Saks Global spokesperson says, “As part of our efforts to optimize our supply chain, Saks Global made the strategic decision to close the Pottsville, PA Distribution Center (PADC). We are grateful to our PADC colleagues for their contributions and are committed to supporting them through this transition, including offering transfer opportunities where possible.”

The company issued a WARN (Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification) notice through the state’s Dept. of Labor and Industry. WARN notices are required to be posted 60 days ahead of mass layoffs or plant closings for employers of more than 100 people.

The Saks facility in Schuylkill County will close starting May 3.

Saks Global voluntarily entered Chapter 11 Bankruptcy on Jan. 13 as the company says it’s moving toward a focus on its full-price brand lines, like Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman. The company said at that time it was winding down most operations associated with its Saks OFF FIFTH and Last Call brands.

Another one of those wonderful warehouses that SEDCO brags about in destroying a beautiful mountain, and now the thing left will be an eye sore.

Plenty of jobs available in trump’s America. The only catch is that you will be employed by a contractor without benefits.
