The former Big Lots Distribution Center in Tremont Township will be a 7,500-bed ICE detention center.
Schuylkill County Commissioners Chairman Larry Padora said Wednesday morning he’s confirmed with US Rep. Dan Meuser (PA-9) that the ICE detention center will house up to 7,500 detainees.
The plan is to process detainees in and out of the facility between 45-90 days.
Padora said he heard from Meuser that the ICE facility will employ between 2,000 and 2,500 people. The Commissioner said ICE will “try to employ people locally.”
