Asian Fusion, at the site of the former Garfield Diner on W. Market St., is set to open this week.
Owner Jeff Chen says he’s excited to open the doors to his newest business in Pottsville on Friday, Jan. 23. And he’s ready to offer something new for Pottsville diners.
The restaurant’s menu features a variety of dishes from several Asian nations, including some from Chen’s first business venture in Pottsville, Hong Kong Buffet.
Asian Fusion will also feature sushi (including classic and special rolls), hibachi dinners ramen bowls, bento, and pho.
Chen is planning to open for lunch and dinner Tuesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. until 9:30 p.m.
The former Garfield Diner has sat vacant for the last decade or longer.
Chen says he’s invested a good deal of money and put in a lot of sweat equity to give new life to the historic diner in downtown Pottsville. He has overseen a major renovation of the former diner. Rotting exterior was removed and new material installed. The roof was replaced.
All windows in the building have been replaced. The dilapidated wood plank wheelchair ramp has been replaced with a concrete one.
Inside the dining room has been given an extensive overhaul and cleaning. In an earlier tour of the restaurant that Chen gave to The Canary, it definitely showed that there was no functioning roof on it for a prolonged period of time.
The kitchen features a kitchen with all new equipment and a walk-in cooler.
Pottsville was appointed conservator of the diner property back in 2023. The City then had to find a buyer for it and Chen stepped up. The sale of the property to Chen was then approved in Schuylkill County Court of Common Pleas.
