In an age of smartphone snapshots and digital filters, Michael Ropitsky proves that true studio photography is a timeless art form.
Established in 1986, Michael’s Photography in Frackville is celebrating four decades of capturing the community’s milestones. As the longest-standing operating studio in Schuylkill County, Michael combines professional training with a commitment to quality that you can hold in your hands.
In this Schuylkill County Small Business Showcase Q&A, Michael discusses his journey from a childhood camera gift to becoming a local institution, and his new, detailed “Eye”mazing portraits.
What inspired you to start this business, and how did your personal journey lead you here?
My parents bought me a camera as a child which extended my interest in photography, enabling my creativity to develop portraits that show quality with classic tradition. I am a professionally trained graduate of an established photography school, and I mentored under a successful city-based photography business. This allowed me to gain both educational and hands-on experience to provide quality portraits.
What unique products or services do you offer that can’t be found elsewhere in our community?
We are the longest-standing operating studio in Schuylkill County. We offer professional lighting, backgrounds, posing, and printed portraits. We specialize in classic pictures, maintaining traditional portraits and preserving your memories for a lifetime.
We also offer “Eye”mazing eye portraits—a unique service involving new eye magnification portraits that turn the details of your eye into art.
Can you share an interesting fact or story about your business that most people may not know?
We are celebrating 40 years of established business offering professionalism and quality production. We cover everything from family portraits, senior portraits, and weddings to pet portraits.
What has been the biggest challenge you’ve faced as a small business, and how did you overcome it?
The challenge is maintaining a successful business with over 40 years of experience in a changing world. We overcome this by implementing knowledge based on continued growth and delivering a quality product that stands the test of time.
What do you want customers to experience when they interact with your business?
I work with customers to exceed their expectations and provide them with quality portraits, which is becoming a long-lost art. We aim to prove that timeless class and tradition still have a place in capturing your family’s history.
Why should someone consider visiting or patronizing your business during the holiday season?
We offer professional backgrounds that freeze time, ensuring your memories can remain in view for years to come.
What are your future plans or dreams for your business?
Our plan is to continue serving our community with great work, great portraits, and great satisfaction.
What advice would you give to someone wanting to start their own business in our community?
Continue tradition with quality production.
