A Schuylkill County man was stopped on his e-bike Tuesday night following a short pursuit and now faces a drug charge.
Police in Pottsville say they saw an e-bike operating on York Farm Rd. with no rear lighting entering the JFK Pool parking lot. The park closes at 10 p.m.
As police attempted to stop the bike, the driver – identified as 40-year-old Joseph Lukach, of Pottsville – did not stop, despite police activating their emergency lights, public address system, and siren.
Lukach continued on the walking path behind the pool and then made a hard right turn onto Woodglen and York Town roads. Eventually, Lukach came to a stop in the 2100 block on Woodglen Rd. and police say they took him into custody.
While stopped, police say Lukach admitted to having meth and a baggie containing a substance that later tested positive as meth.
Police have filed misdemeanor charges of possession of a controlled substance and eluding police as well as summary offenses for criminal trespass and two traffic offenses for his e-bike’s lack of lights.

Pottsville needs to make a decision on EBikes- are they bicycles or electric vehicles? Rules for each are very different.
