Police: Schuylkill County Man Found with His Butt Hanging Out Window of Condemned Home He Broke Into

Stephen and Shirl reportedly said it was cool though.

A Schuylkill County man was jailed early Monday morning after police say they found him with his rear end hanging out of the window of a condemned home he’d entered.

Police in Pottsville say they were called to a condemned home on N. 8th St. shortly after 11 p.m. on Sunday (Dec. 28) for a reported breaking-and-entering.

A neighbor had reportedly called police to say they heard banging outside and then noises coming from inside the home, which has been condemned for about two months. A red CONDEMNED sticker was affixed to the property, police say.

As police arrived on the scene, they say the derrière of Robert Mayberry, a 64-year-old homeless man was hanging out a window toward the street. Mayberry, police say, was trying to exit the building as they arrived.

Police say that while they were taking Mayberry into custody, he randomly said, “Stephen and Shirl told me I could break in and take whatever I wanted.”

On the ground near the window from which Mayberry had attempted to exit, police say was an air conditioner. They suspect Mayberry had removed it to enter the property.

Mayberry, police say, smelled of alcoholic beverage. On his person, they add, was a nearly empty bottle of Fireball and an EBT card from a person not named Mayberry.

Police took Mayberry before Magisterial District Judge Edward Tarantelli for arraignment early Monday morning. He’s being charged with a felony count of criminal trespass, a misdemeanor count of prowling at night, and a summary offense of public drunkenness.

Tarantelli set bail at $5,000 and Mayberry was housed at Schuylkill County Prison. A preliminary hearing is currently scheduled for Jan. 5.
