A Pottsville man was jailed over the weekend after police say he assaulted a woman in her car during an argument.
Police in the city were called to the 500 block of S. Centre St for a reported domestic assault shortly after midnight on Nov. 28.
While speaking with the victim of this alleged assault, police say they learned that Trevon Allen, 21, became agitated with the victim while they were at a bar in the 500 block of N. Centre St. Allen was reportedly agitated over his girlfriend’s relationship with his mother.
In the victim’s car, Allen got angrier and allegedly put his hand on the victim’s neck and applied pressure, then pushed her against the window of her car several times. Allen then allegedly grabbed the victim by her hair and pulled out an extension.
The victim told police that she was eventually able to get Allen out of her car and she drove off to a point where she could phone 9-1-1. Allen reportedly walked south on Centre St., reaching the 200 block of S. Centre, where police were able to find and detain him.
Police have charged Allen with a felony count of strangulation, a misdemeanor count of simple assault, and a summary offense for harassment. He was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge James Reiley, who set bail at 10% of $15,000, and Allen was remanded to Schuylkill County Prison.
Allen, according to court records, was released after posting bond on Monday.
A preliminary hearing is currently scheduled for Dec. 8.
