Temps to Drop Into Single Digits Overnight for Much of Schuylkill County

Arctic cold sweeps across coal region Thursday

It’s about to get frigid here in the coal region.

Low temperatures overnight Thursday into Friday in Schuylkill County will either be in or very near the single digits.

According to National Weather Service, the low temps in Schuylkill County will be anywhere between 8-11 degrees Thursday night into Friday. The average low for this time of year is about 27 degrees.

An arctic cold front is being blamed for this early blast of wintry air. The front is expected to sweep across Pennsylvania through the day on Thursday.

Blustery winds – with gusts up to 28 mph in some spots – will accompany the cold front and will calm behind it, when temperatures will plummet to near-record lows.

Here’s a look at the expected low temps across Schuylkill County on Thursday night.

It’ll stay cold on Friday across Schuylkill County with high temps below freezing everywhere. There is a very slight chance of light snow on Friday, mostly in the morning and at night, according to NWS forecasting.

The good news here is that temps rebound above freezing for the weekend, approaching 40 degrees. But cold air is expected back in the area on Monday, with low temps in the single digits once again overnight into Tuesday.
