Trooper Says Schuylkill County Woman Lunged for His Gun While Serving Mental Health Warrant

Felony charges filed against Norwegian Township resident

A Schuylkill County woman is facing felony charges after she allegedly lunged to grab a State Trooper’s handgun while he was attempting to serve a mental health warrant.

Police say they arrived at a home in Norwegian Township on Tuesday evening to serve a 302 warrant on Kayla Ansbach, 26.

When Ansbach learned why police had arrived, she allegedly fled upstairs and locked herself in a bathroom closet. After the door was unlocked, another person in the home attempted to comfort Ansbach, police say.

Ansbach repeatedly said she did not want to go to the hospital and attempted an act of self-harm.

At that time, Ansbach repeated that she was not going to the hospital and attempted to leave the closet. One Trooper attempted to stop her from leaving and that’s when Ansbach allegedly lunged with both hands for his department-issued handgun located on his right hip.

Eventually, police were able to take Ansbach into custody and she was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital-East.

Police have filed felony charges of attempting to disarm a law enforcement officer and aggravated assault against Ansbach. She’s also been charged with a misdemeanor for resisting arrest and a summary offense for harassment.
