A Pottsville man is wanted by police following an incident earlier this week in which he allegedly entered a neighbor’s home to take items he said were stolen from him.
At about 1:30 p.m. on Monday (Oct. 27), police say they were dispatched to the 500 block of E. Market St. for a reported disturbance. En route to the call, 9-1-1 dispatchers informed police that their caller was being threatened with a gun.
When they arrived, police say they interviewed 23-year-old Jaheim Gregory who said that a neighbor had stolen his gaming console, shoes, and clothing from him.
Gregory reportedly told police that he entered his neighbor’s residence to get the items he claimed were his back. He said he got most of the items he said were stolen from him and took them back to his place on the same block.
Police say that when they asked Gregory for his identification multiple times and when he finally did divulge his name, he used a false name of Jaheim Williams. Based on their previous encounters with him, police say they were able to identify him properly.
Officers say they then spoke with the person who lived in the residence where Gregory had allegedly entered without permission. He said that an unknown person (Gregory) had gotten into his home. That’s when the neighbor told police he grabbed his shotgun in self-defense. He reportedly told police that Gregory grabbed some items and left.
Police say they then obtained surveillance footage in the area that showed Gregory walking to the victim’s home, yelling and causing a disturbance on the street.
After gathering that information, police say they went back to Gregory’s home to place him under arrest but soon learned that he left with a friend. They attempted to call Gregory but couldn’t establish contact.
Gregory is facing charges of criminal trespass, a third-degree felony, providing false identification to police, a misdemeanor, and disorderly conduct, a summary offense.
