Police: Schuylkill County Man Posed as ADA, Held Knife to Woman’s Throat

Paul Daubert held on $50K bail

A Schuylkill County man was jailed this week after police say he posed as an Assistant District Attorney to meet with a woman and then held a knife to her throat.

State Police say they were dispatched to Spittler Rd. in Pine Grove Township on Thursday evening (Oct. 16) to meet with the victim of a domestic violence incident.

Troopers met with the victim of this alleged incident in the parking lot of the Ravine Fire Dept. She reportedly told police that Paul Daubert, 40, had held a knife to her throat and that he was at a nearby residence.

When police arrived at that residence, just a quarter-mile from the fire department building, police say Daubert was sitting on the roof of a detached garage. Police say they asked Daubert if he had a knife. He acknowledged that he did, a black folding knife, and threw it to the ground.

Daubert then got down off the shed roof and he was taken into custody for questioning.

Police say Daubert was clearly inebriated as they questioned him, his answers so “sporadic” that Troopers were unable to determine what had occurred, from his side of the story. Daubert then stopped answering questions, police say, and became verbally aggressive. He was then transported to the State Police-Schuylkill Haven barracks for further questioning.

The victim of the alleged incident drove herself back to the fire department building, where she was treated by EMS personnel at the scene. Police say they questioned the victim as she sat in the back of an ambulance.

According to the victim, Daubert had obtained her phone number from someone and called her at about 4 p.m. that afternoon. She said she didn’t know Daubert but talked to him on the phone for an hour. Daubert reportedly posed as an Assistant District Attorney and told the victim he could help her with prior legal issues.

The victim said Daubert had her drive to a bridge near the intersection of Tremont and Spittler roads. When she got there and got out of her vehicle, they had a conversation for several minutes. She said she drove Daubert to his address at 34 Spittler Rd. and they both walked back to the shed where he was later found by police.

As they approached the shed, the victim said, Daubert started acting strangely and saying strange things. It was at this point that the victim said she saw Daubert’s phone in his chest pocket and realized that he’d been recording their discussion.

The victim said she took the phone from Daubert’s pocket and tried to delete the video. Daubert then allegedly grabbed the phone and threw it on the shed roof.

He then took out his pocketknife, flipped it open, and held it to the victim’s throat, she said. After about a minute, Daubert took the knife away from the victim’s throat and dared her to climb up on the shed room to get his phone.

The victim told police she stood on a table near the shed to get on the roof but is unsuccessful. Daubert then allegedly climbed on the table with the victim, took her phone from her hand, and pushed her off the table to the ground, injuring her right arm.

The victim told police that Daubert then threw the phone at her, damaging it and the phone case. She said she got in her vehicle and drove to the fire department property, but not before recording a video of Daubert falling off the table next to the shed.

Back at the police barracks, Daubert reportedly refused to answer any questions.

He was later arraigned before Magisterial District Judge James Reiley and charged with felony counts of robbery and aggravated assault, along with misdemeanor counts of simple assault, impersonating a public servant, and indecent assault, as well as summary counts of harassment and criminal mischief.

Reiley set bail at $50,000 cash and Daubert was remanded to Schuylkill County Prison. Court records show he’s still in prison awaiting a preliminary hearing scheduled for Oct. 30 at District Court in Tremont.
