A Schuylkill County man is facing charges after he allegedly threatened a woman with a shotgun after she served him child custody papers.
According to court documents, police in Pottsville were sent to a home on N. George St. on the afternoon of Sept. 15 for a reported threat.
Schuylkill County 9-1-1 dispatchers told police that the victim of this alleged incident was no longer in the city and had gone to Frackville. The victim reportedly told police that she’d gone to that N. George St. address to serve child custody papers on Derrick Reese, 29, of Pottsville.
The victim told police she recorded the initial encounter with Reese on her phone. Reese answered the door. The victim told he he’d been served after handing him the papers she had, according to police.
After serving the papers, the victim retreated to the sidewalk. Reese allegedly told the woman to leave the area. He went back inside his residence and closed the door. The victim then yells the juvenile’s name.
When Reese heard that, he reportedly came back outside and told the victim that if she didn’t leave, he would go get his gun.
Now standing on E. Arch St, just before N. George St., the victim begins recording again and points her camera at Reese’s residence. In that shot, Reese is allegedly standing on his porch with a shotgun over his left shoulder. He then points at the victim and tells her to come back to his property.
Police say they placed Reese in investigatory detention and back at City Hall, he allegedly said he didn’t know the victim in this incident nor why she was at his home. He allegedly admitted to getting his gun when he heard the victim yelling the juvenile’s name outside his home.
Reese allegedly admitted to having his shotgun in front of his chest but said he didn’t remember pointing at the victim and telling her to come back to his property.
Police have charged Reese with misdemeanor charges of making terroristic threats, simple assault, and harassment. He’s been ordered to appear for a preliminary hearing before District Magistrate Judge James Reiley on Nov. 3.
