Tremont council members met Friday afternoon during a special session to accept the resignation of the borough’s roadmaster, Jim Scheibley.
Scheibley is also a member of the Borough Council but did not attend Friday’s 3 p.m. meeting. Council members Bill Ochs, Melody Strickler, and Roger Adams made up a quorum for the meeting and voted in favor of accepting the resignation.
But there was a twist.
In making the motion to accept Scheibley’s resignation, Strickler added in that the council will “move forward with getting the restitution.”
No explanation on what was meant by “restitution” was provided by council members and Solicitor Shane Hobbs advised those voting not to speak any further during Friday’s session.
Hobbs said that “restitution” was maybe the wrong word to use because as a Borough Council, it can’t “order restitution.”
He said he advised council members to not speak any further because it’s a personnel issue and a pending legal matter.
However, just prior to adjourning the meeting, Tremont Mayor Gerald Fasnacht asked council members, “I’d just like to know if we can continue this. Are we just going to end this … is everything ended today or are we going to keep going after Jim? That’s what I’d like to know.”
