A Schuylkill County man was chased by children after he allegedly struck a woman multiple times during a domestic altercation.
According to court documents, police were called to a home on Cedar St. in Tamaqua shortly before midnight on July 11 for a reported domestic altercation.
Emergency dispatchers reportedly told police that the suspect – identified as 35-year-old Mario Lorenzana – had fled the scene and that numerous children were chasing him.
As police arrived at the scene, they say numerous people came forward. The victim in this alleged incident, police say, was distraught and in severe pain. Police say she had abrasions on her nose, above her left eye and was complaining of back and hip pain.
The victim reportedly told police that Lorenzana had been abusing her for the last three days. On the day that police responded, the victim said that Lorenzana had been drinking and smoking and accused her of cheating on him.
Lorenzana allegedly pushed the victim to the ground and then repeatedly began hitting her, she said.
Numerous children confirmed this account of Lorenzana’s actions, police say.
Lorenzana was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Anthony Kilker and charged with simple assault and harassment. Kilker set bail at $25,000 cash and Lorenzana was remanded to Schuylkill County Prison, where he remains pending a preliminary hearing, which is scheduled for July 22.
