Police in Berks County are looking for people they say are responsible for pulling off a high-priced sneaker rip-off.
According to State Police-Hamburg, the purported victim in this case agreed to meet someone at the Tilden Twp. Walmart parking lot at just before 11 p.m. on New Year’s Day. They had agreed to sell two pairs of Nike sneakers using the OfferUp app.
The seller agreed to sell the following items:
- A used pair of Travis Scott Nike Dunk, Size 9.5 (Men’s), for $280,
- A used pair of Nike Off-White, Size 11.5 (Women’s), for $300.
On the night of Jan. 1, the OfferUp seller showed up at the Walmart parking lot. So did the buyer. The buyer pulled in front of the grocery/pharmacy entrance, police say. That’s where the seller was waiting.
Police say there were two people in the buyer’s vehicle. They describe the car as dark-colored, four-door, and possible an Infiniti.
The passenger side door opened and the seller handed the sneakers to the buyer but did not collect any money.
According to police, the buyer told the seller that they wanted to take photos of the sneakers to “authenticate” them. But instead of taking the photos, the seller just sped off with the sneakers, without paying for them.
Police say the vehicle the buyer was in left the parking lot onto Tilden Ridge Drive.
No identity on the OfferUp seller was provided by police.
Anyone with information in this case is asked to contact PSP-Hamburg at 610-562-6885.
