Travis Blankenhorn celebrated his return to a professional baseball diamond Friday night with one of his best games as a pro.
After getting demoted by the New York Mets following a one-game stint as the team’s designated hitter, Blankenhorn returned to the Triple-A Syracuse Mets lineup Friday in the team’s game against the Omaha Storm Chasers.
The Mets positioned the Pottsville native in right field, batting 5th in the lineup Friday night. And he didn’t disappoint.
Blankenhorn went 3-for-5 at the plate, with a home run, a double, 2 RBI and 2 runs scored. He finished a triple shy of hitting for the cycle Friday. The Mets smoked the Storm Chasers, 9-4.
Prior to and now after his time with the big club in Flushing, Blankenhorn has been raking at the plate. He’s the reigning International League Player of the Month (June).
But it was this one play with his glove that had everyone talking after the game.
Check out how the former Crimson Tide star tracks down this ball right on the foul line during the top of the 7th inning with his team holding a comfortable lead:
