Pottsville native Travis Blankenhorn is in the starting lineup for the New York Mets tonight as the team begins its stretch run of the 2022 season.
Blankenhorn will be batting 8th in the lineup as the designated hitter for the Mets when they take on the San Diego Padres.
This is a crucial series for the Mets as they look to stay ahead of the Atlanta Braves in the NL East race.
Blankenhorn Batting 8th for Mets in Friday’s Game vs. Padres
This will be Blankenhorn’s first appearance for the Mets in the 2022 season. He appeared in 24 games for New York last season, when he hit his first Major League home run against the Pirates.
For his short MLB career, Blankenhorn is hitting .192 (5-for-26).
His promotion from Triple-A Syracuse was made possible by the Mets placing Dominic Smith on the 10-day injured list. Blankenhorn was called up earlier in the day Friday, ahead of the series opener with the Padres.
With Syracuse, Blankenhorn has seen his average climb over the season. He’s currently hitting .276 with a dozen home runs and 43 RBI.
You can watch Blankenhorn’s start tonight at 7 p.m. on SNY.
