A Saint Clair man died Friday afternoon while trying to cross Route 443 in Washington Township.
State Police in Schuylkill Haven say the 88-year-old man was crossing the highway at about 4:10 p.m. near the area of the Red Lion Cafe, just west of Route 443’s intersection of Lengle Homestead Rd.
At the same time, a Kia Sportage driven by a 53-year-old Pine Grove man was headed east on Route 443. The driver hit the pedestrian, striking him with the left bumper of the vehicle. After striking the man, the driver pulled to the side of the road, police say.

The driver sustained minor injuries.
