Thousands of PPL Electric customers in Schuylkill County are currently without power as an intense wind storm has wreaked havoc on the grid.

According to the PPL Outage Center, there are currently (at 3 p.m.) 2,960 customers without electricity.

Based on PPL’s outage map, most of the outages in Schuylkill County are centered on southern and northeast sections of the area. There’s currently a cluster of more than 1,000 outages around New Ringgold and McKeansburg. And there’s another cluster of about 600 customers near Hometown also without power.

Widespread outages are also reported near Ashland and Fountain Springs, along Panther Valley Road near Cressona, and Kepner. Isolated outages are being reported all over Schuylkill County, too.

The only area mostly unaffected by the wind so far is in central Schuylkill County, including Pottsville, Minersville, Port Carbon, and Saint Clair.

Schuylkill County is under a Wind Advisory until 6 p.m. Friday. Gusts, according to National Weather Service, could top 50 mph.
