You never know what you’re going to see at the A-Plus in Pottsville.
If you’ve been living here long enough, you know the place has changed quite a bit over the years. And more recently, it’s taken on a real … let’s call it a different quality.
On Sunday night … easily the nicest night of the year, we had to pop in there because another local convenience store was fresh out of something we wanted.
We saw one guy with his hand in a coat pocket and he didn’t look happy about anything. And then there was some guy outside wearing wannabe Beats headphones, sunglasses (at close to midnight) and a bandana for a mask. He was milling around and looking rather sketchy.
We just wanted to get the hell out of there as fast as possible.
This wasn’t our first time at the A-Plus, of course. But every time we go there, it seems to get a little bit weirder.
We found some other instances of people getting their money’s worth from the activities there:
One Twitter user writes back about a year ago, “Sunoco in Pottsville is literally breeding grounds for crackheads.”

Back in 2016, another Twitter user spotted a melee. “Pull up to the Pottsville Sunoco and there are two white trash chicks having a fight in the parking lot lmao,” they write.

Apparently, the APlus is more than just a spot to buy overpriced Guers Iced Tea. And it has been for nearly a decade now as this person noted on Twitter back in 2013.
“Well if I ever wanted to buy meth I now know Sunoco in Pottsville is my place,” they write.

The APlus is Everything That’s Wrong with Pottsville
Even the service quality has dropped at APlus. But it’s hard to blame the employees. Imagine having to work with that zoo milling around outside. They must never know what’s going to happen next.
It seems that as Pottsville declines, so too does the APlus.
Then again, maybe we’re going to the APlus with expectations too high. It’s just a gas station after all, right?
Not really. It’s not hard to remember this spot as a place where many people started their work day. The staff was friendly and courteous and the level of oddity among the people hanging around outside wasn’t nearly as creepy or bizarre.
It’s an accurate representation of what’s happening in Pottsville, especially in the downtown area.
