Police in Butler Township are looking for a man they say robbed the Turkey Hill mini-mart in Lavelle at gunpoint early Tuesday morning.

According to information posted on the PD’s Facebook page, the armed robber came in a little after 1 a.m. at the Turkey Hill off Route 901.

Newport Bandit Robs Turkey Hill in Lavelle at Gunpoint

Police say the man was white and wearing a surgical mask on his face. He had a dark colored hat, wearing a gray hoodie, a pair of blue jeans and boots. They estimate he weighs between 180-200 pounds.

It’s not disclosed if he made off with any cash but in this surveillance still shot released by Butler Township Police, you can see him carrying what appears to be a carton of Newport cigarettes pinched between his arm and torso. In one hand, he’s got a gun behind his back. The other hand’s carrying what appears to be two beverages, one of which is a Turkey Hill iced tea.

There’s also something in his pants pocket but we’re not going to presume what that is.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call BTPD at 570-875-4131.

Social Distance Warriors Wonder Why Turkey Hill is Open So Late

You can’t even report on an armed robbery these days without the Schuylkill County Social Distance Warriors getting in their two cents.

We definitely feel bad for the clerk who endured this senseless crime. It’s not our intent to underscore the seriousness of the crime.

But, on the Butler Township PD’s Facebook post, some wondered why Turkey Hill was even open at 1:30ish. (Note: BTPD says the robbery occurred at 1:35 a.m. but surveillance image released by them shows the time stamp at 1:14 a.m.)

One comment says people should just get gas “at a reasonable hour” despite people noting how 2nd and 3rd shift workers may need to get gas at this hour. This is as good a time as any to remind people to mind their own damn business and not worry about why Turkey Hill feels the need to be open 24 hours a day. We’re sure they’ve done the math on this and it makes sense for them to be open.

Maybe people should be more worried about the rise in armed robberies at convenience stores lately and not what time businesses choose to be open.

Actually, we’re surprised no one mentioned how this armed bandit chose to wear a surgical mask to commit the crime. They’re for medical professionals!
