Fire on Monday afternoon partially destroyed a Pottsville auto detailing business.
The incident also snarled some busy city traffic right around the rush hour.
Around 5:30 p.m. on Monday, crews from Pottsville, Minersville, Schuylkill Haven and surrounding communities were dispatched to 215 Mauch Chunk Street. That’s where they found heavy smoke coming from Miller’s Recondition Shop, an auto detailer business, among other services.
Fast response from fire and emergency crews made quick work of heavy smoke and after just about an hour, the fire was ruled under control.
The rear of the auto shop appears to have suffered the heaviest damage.
According to sources listening to emergency radio, at least two firefighters may have suffered injuries. EMS personnel were called to the scene to evaluate.
A rancid smell not common to most fire scenes filled the air surrounding the scene.
The scene caused traffic tie-ups around the area. Traffic congested at Route 61 in Pottsville as well as South Centre St. downtown.
At about 6:30 p.m., fire crews remained on the scene. Mauch Chunk St. remained closed to traffic.
