Woman Shot in Shenandoah Incident Last Week Has Died

Identities of all three deceased released

The woman who was shot and airlifted from the scene of a deadly incident in Shenandoah last week has died.

The Montour County Coroner Scott E. Lynn confirmed Monday that Harley Reese, 31, was declared brain dead on July 4 after being admitted to Geisinger Medical Center-Danville the previous day in critical condition.

Reese was one of three people shot inside a home on W. Centre St. in Shenandoah during the early morning hours of July 3.

An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday, the Coroner’s Office reports.

Inside the home at 307 W. Centre St., police say they encountered a juvenile male who said to them, “I need help. Daddy just shot mom and granddad.”

Police say they encountered a deceased male on a couch on the first floor of the home. He’s been identified as Thomas Peter Chernewski, 63.

As police cleared the first floor of the home, they say a gunshot was heard on the second floor. When they went upstairs, they encountered a deceased male outside of a bedroom door. He’s been identified as Kevin Gordon, 40.

On a police update, Gordon is listed as both a victim and suspect.

Reese, who was also on the second floor, was taken from the scene, suffering from a gunshot wound and in critical condition.

Lynn says that the Montour County Coroner’s Office is working with State Police-Hazleton on the investigation into Reese’s death.

Police have indicated that this was an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public.
