A Pottsville man was flown to Geisinger Medical Center with a stab wound to his abdomen after a fight inside a Mahantongo St. building Sunday night, police say.
The 43-year-old man was listed in “very critical” condition and was entering surgery when police released information on the case.
Pottsville police were called to the area of Centre and Norwegian streets shortly after 8 p.m. Sunday for a report of someone who had been stabbed. Officers found the man bleeding from a wound to his abdomen, and because of the extent of his injuries, he was flown to Geisinger in Danville.
Police say they learned the altercation happened inside a building in the 500 block of Mahantongo St. and involved the man who was stabbed, a 37-year-old homeless man, and a 39-year-old Hazleton man, according to police.
The Hazleton man was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital in Pottsville with facial injuries. The 37-year-old man sustained minor injuries to his hand, police said.
Police said the investigation is ongoing and charges are pending additional interviews with the men involved.
