Schuylkill Commissioners Approve 7 Repository Property Sales

Approvals made at Oct. 14 meeting

Schuylkill County Commissioners approved the sale of seven properties from the county’s tax claim repository at their meeting Wednesday, Oct. 14.

Five of the properties are going to the boroughs they sit in for $1 each and are marked for demolition. Shenandoah Borough is buying four homes on West Penn Street, and Coaldale Borough is buying a property on West Water Street.

The other two are going to private buyers. Rosalba De La Cruz Duran bid $1,616 for 451 Water St. in Ashland, and Julio F. Altuna bid $725 for 117 W. Mahanoy Ave. in McAdoo.

The repository holds properties that failed to sell at the county’s upset and judicial tax sales. Buyers can bid on them at any time, but the local municipality and school district must sign off before a sale goes to the commissioners.

All seven sales had already been approved by the municipalities and school districts involved. The five $1 bids were below the repository price, and the local taxing bodies approved those lower amounts.

The sales approved are:

  • 451 Water St., Ashland: Parcel 38-4-38, owner of record George Snyder, sold to Rosalba De La Cruz Duran for $1,616.
  • 38 W. Water St., Coaldale: Parcel 40-2-144, owner of record Morgan Tate & Brewer LLC, sold to Coaldale Borough for $1.
  • 117 W. Mahanoy Ave., McAdoo: Parcel 48-8-315, owners of record Ochoa Gonzales and Nelson Geovanny, sold to Julio F. Altuna for $725.
  • 528 W. Penn St., Shenandoah: Parcel 64-4-187, owner of record Mahlon J. Smith, sold to Shenandoah Borough for $1.
  • 526 W. Penn St., Shenandoah: Parcel 64-4-189, owners of record Olga H. and Eugene Gavenas, sold to Shenandoah Borough for $1.
  • 330 W. Penn St., Shenandoah: Parcel 64-4-254, owners of record Charles J. and Maryann Magalengo, sold to Shenandoah Borough for $1.
  • 326 W. Penn St., Shenandoah: Parcel 64-4-255, owner of record Jean Dubitsky, sold to Shenandoah Borough for $1.
