Three Schuylkill County teenagers suffered suspected serious injuries late Sunday when the car they were riding in slid off Route 209 in Porter Township and struck a tree, police say.
The crash happened shortly after 11:30 p.m.
A 16-year-old Ashland girl was driving a 2011 Ford Focus north on Route 209 at a suspected high rate of speed as she went into a left-hand curve, according to police. Because of the wet road and the car’s speed, the driver lost control.
The car went off the right side of the road sideways and struck a tree with its front driver’s side. The impact left the car disabled.
Rescuers had to extricate the driver and her front-seat passenger, a 15-year-old Ashland girl. Both were taken to Hershey Medical Center with suspected serious injuries. Community Life Team transported the driver, and Hegins Area Ambulance transported the front-seat passenger.
The rear-seat passenger, a 17-year-old Frackville girl, was taken by Minersville EMS to Lehigh Valley Hospital-East in Pottsville for treatment of suspected serious injuries, according to police.
All three were wearing seat belts, police say.
The West End, Ravine, Hegins and Pine Grove fire companies assisted at the scene, along with Hegins EMS, Minersville EMS, Community Life Team and local fire police.
