Vibrant Fall Foliage Season in Store for Schuylkill County

Leaves starting to turn; Peak season weeks away

Leaves are just starting to change here in Schuylkill County and state officials are predicting a vibrant Fall foliage show this year.

The dry summer coupled with some late-season rain promises to turn the leaves of deciduous trees into their brightest shades of yellow, orange, and red in the coming weeks.

Pennsylvania’s Dept. of Conservation and Natural Resources just relased its first Fall Foliage report for the season. It noted that leaves are just starting to change in some parts of Schuylkill County, mostly in northern areas, based on our observations. And DCNR is right, the leaves are spectacular so far.

Red maple and black gum trees are showing off early this year, DCNR foresters say. The leaves on black walnuts have begun turning yellow, too. In the next week, more maple trees may begin showing their colors as we experience some cold nights ahead. However, it’ll still be a few weeks until Schuylkill County reaches its peak foliage color.

Use our map below for help finding the best locations in Schuylkill County to view Fall foliage. State parks in the area provide plenty of opportunities and it’s cheaper than driving around to get glimpses of the leaves.

If you can’t wait, you’ll find maps to locations in other areas of the state where you’ll see some great foliage right now, especially in the northern tier counties.
