Police in Pottsville have identified the body found in a wooded area off Race St. early last month.
According to information released on Thursday, the person has been identified as 36-year-old Devon Shaak, of Pottsville. Shaak had been reported missing by his mother on Aug. 6.
Shaak’s body was found in an advanced state of decomposition in a wooded area in the 400 block of W. Race St. on Sept. 4, according to Pottsville Police Chief John Morrow. Dental records were used to identify him and police relied on Dr. Tammy Balatgek, DDS, MS, to help with identification.
The cause and manner of Shaak’s death are undetermined, according to police. The Schuylkill County Coroners Office and State Police Forensic Unit have assisted in the investigation.
