A 50-year-old Williamstown woman faces a felony charge after police allege she took more than 14 grams of methamphetamine into Schuylkill County Prison via her bra earlier this month.
Jaime Burnfield was charged by State Police with felony contraband of a controlled substance, along with misdemeanor counts of intentional possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to police, Burnfield arrived at the PSP-Schuylkill Haven barracks around 12:30 p.m. on Sept. 8 to retrieve her truck from an impound lot. While she was at the station, troopers discovered she had an active arrest warrant out of Dauphin County.
During a search incident to arrest, police say they found a small amount of suspected methamphetamine in her right front pants pocket. Police then began transporting her to Schuylkill County Prison at a little after 1 p.m.
Upon arriving at the prison just before 2 p.m., Burnfield told the Trooper that she might have something in her bra.
Before a female corrections officer conducted a pat search, prison staff asked Burnfield if she had any items on her person, and she said no, police said. During the search, officers found suspected methamphetamine, including a small clear glass jar containing the substance. When asked what the items were, Burnfield reportedly replied, “It’s all meth.”
Burnfield was taken back to the barracks for processing, where police say they weighed the suspected methamphetamine, saying it weighed 14.1 grams.
Burnfield was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Christian Lengel, who set bail at $10,000. She was remanded to Schuylkill County Prison until posting bond on Sept. 14. Burnfield has since been charged with misdemeanor weapon and drugs offenses.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Sept. 28 before Magisterial District Judge James Reiley. Another hearing on the latest charges before Lengel is scheduled for Oct. 15.
