Pine Grove native Alicia Kimmel will enter the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford Athletic Hall of Fame on Sept. 26 following a record-setting basketball career with the Panthers.
Kimmel, a 2015 graduate who earned a degree in sport medicine, played women’s basketball at Pitt-Bradford from 2011 to 2015. She scored 1,385 points, grabbed 643 rebounds, dished 162 assists, and recorded 118 steals across 103 games. Kimmel finished fourth in program history in both total points scored and free-throw percentage, shooting 74% from the foul line over her career and setting a school single-season record by hitting 86.5% of her free throws in the 2012-13 season.
A three-time All-AMCC performer, Kimmel earned AMCC Player of the Year and Pitt-Bradford Female Athlete of the Year honors in the 2014-15 season after guiding the team to 17 wins. Former head coach Patrick Daniel will induct Kimmel during the ceremony. Following her undergraduate career, Kimmel earned a nursing degree in 2019, served as a graduate assistant coach at Bethany College, and worked as a nurse at Allegheny General Hospital and The Ohio State University Hospital.
The university will also induct two other members into its athletic hall: founding baseball coach Bret Butler, who led the program from 1998 to 2016 with 356 career wins, and former volleyball player Maggie Johnson Tortatice, a four-time all-conference hitter. The Pitt-Bradford Alumni Association will additionally present the Teaching Excellence Award to Dr. BioDun J. Ogundayo and the Denny Lowery Distinguished Volunteer Award to Russ and Rebecca Myer.
The induction ceremony takes place at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 26 at the Alumni Awards Dinner in the Mukaiyama University Room, Frame-Westerberg Commons.
