Authorities Attempting to Identify Body Found Friday in Pottsville

Discovered Friday afternoon in wooded area

Authorities are still trying to identify the body found in a wooded area off W. Race St. in Pottsville on Friday afternoon.

According to Pottsville Police Chief John Morrow, his officers were called to the 400 block of W. Race St at that time for a report of a deceased body found in the woods.

However, due to degredation, an identity of the person could not be determined at the time. The Schuylkill County Coroner’s Office then took possession of the deceased.

According to Deputy Coroner Dr. Anne Cadau an autopsy on the body was performed Wednesday morning by Forensic Pathology Associates, which is contracted by that office for some autopsies. Cadau says the autopsy was performed at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest.

Results of the autopsy were not immediately available.

The Coroner’s Office is now in the process of conferring with Pottsville Bureau of Police to identify the person found.
