A 79-year-old Schuylkill County man died Sunday morning after apparently suffering a medical emergency and crashing his car into a downtown Pottsville hotel, according to police.
Police were dispatched to the intersection of S. Centre and Mahantongo streets at about 7:30 a.m. for a report of a motor vehicle accident. Officers determined the Minersville man was driving a 2011 Toyota Camry east on Mahantongo St. toward S. Centre St. when the vehicle failed to stop.
The car drove across S. Centre St. and onto the sidewalk, where it struck a wall and then the Miner’s Hotel, formerly the Ramada, according to police.
Investigators say the driver had apparently experienced a medical emergency prior to the crash. Schuylkill EMS transported the man to LVHN–East, where he was pronounced deceased.
A forensic autopsy will be performed by the Schuylkill County Coroner’s Office.
