One person was taken to the hospital following a two-vehicle crash at a Route 61 intersection in Pottsville Wednesday afternoon.
Police in the city were called to the scene of Route 61 and E. Arch St. shortly before 6 p.m. for a report of two heavily-damaged vehicles that resulted from the collision.
Eyewitness accounts and video footage confirmed that Victor Martinez, 34, of Pottsville, was behind the wheel of a 2019 Toyota Rav4 traveling north in the passing lane of the highway. Martinez tried to make an abrupt right turn onto E. Arch St. but when doing so, was hit by a Jeep, driven by a 51-year-old woman from Ashland, that was also traveling north on Route 61 at the time.
Members of Pottsville Fire Dept. at the scene had to extricate a passenger in Martinez’s vehicle. The passenger, a 32-year-old woman from Pottsville, was evaluated at the scene by Schuylkill EMS and then transported to a local hospital.
Both vehicles were towed from the scene, police say. A traffic citation was filed in District Court against Martinez.
