A man allegedly grabbed a Boscov’s loss prevention officer by both arms and kissed her on the arm after he was caught stealing from the Fairlane Village Mall store.
Sean John Barnes, 21, of Drums, Luzerne County, is charged with retail theft, a first-degree misdemeanor, and harassment for subjecting another person to physical contact, a summary offense. He was jailed Tuesday night after being unable to post 10% of $10,000 bail set by Magisterial District Judge James Reiley.
State Police say they were dispatched around 3 p.m. Tuesday to Boscov’s at Fairlane Village Mall in Norwegian Township for a report of a man in custody of loss prevention officers for retail theft.
A store loss prevention officer told police he watched Barnes shop throughout the store for a few hours. Barnes purchased numerous items and kept shopping.
Barnes then took multiple clothing items into a dressing room and concealed them in the bag holding the items he had already paid for, the loss prevention officer told police. He then changed into an unpurchased shirt and began walking out of the store.
Loss prevention officers approached Barnes and escorted him to an upstairs office, where they found jewelry from the store concealed in his pocket, police say. Barnes became aggressive with the loss prevention officers while he was sitting in the upstairs office, the store’s loss prevention officer told police.
The victim, a loss prevention officer, told police that as Barnes became aggressive, she stood with her back against a desk next to him. Barnes allegedly then grabbed both of her arms and kissed one of her arms with his lips as she stood next to him.
The loss prevention officer provided troopers with an itemized receipt for the 13 items Barnes walked out of the store with, which totaled $360.08, police say.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 1 before Magisterial District Judge Edward Lewis.
